Dr. Douglas Lipp is a licensed Clinical Psychologist who specializes in working with children, adolescents, parents and families to problem-solve around a youngster’s emotional, behavioral or learning difficulties when they interfere with home, school and friendships. He has particular training and experience in assessing and treating child and adult ADHD, anxiety, self-esteem issues and depression. Additionally, he is especially skilled in helping children and parents (and adults without children) deal with issues of separation and divorce, and has specific training as a Child Specialist Consultant to divorcing spouses.
Dr. Lipp also has expertise across the lifespan, with training as a Certified Senior Advisor, offering assistance to mature adults as they face the challenges retirement, lifestyle transitions and goal setting, and providing support and guidance to adult children of aging parents.
During his more than three decades as a mental health professional, Dr. Lipp has worked in outpatient, day treatment and inpatient settings, school-based programs and private practice. He was Director of Child, Adolescent and Family Services at a private psychiatric hospital before entering into private practice in New York. He has also been an Adjunct Professor at Skidmore College and George Mason University and has presented at conferences regarding resiliency-building and stress reduction. Additionally, Dr. Lipp has served as a School Psychologist in specialized programs for children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, attentional, learning and/or Autism Spectrum Disorders in the public schools. He is highly knowledgeable regarding the IEP process and accommodations and modifications for special needs students, and is well-versed in many therapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, psychodynamic and developmental therapy. His treatment approach is integrative and collaborative with the client, parents, school and other professionals as may be indicated. Above all, Dr. Lipp strives to help the client achieve a thorough understanding of their issues, identify and build on their strengths, develop problem-solving, coping skills and resilience along with a sense of hope about their future.
